Karma’s Treats is a Detroit faith-based culinary enterprise dedicated to "Feeding Souls While Building a Sustainable Business." Led by founder Andrea Scott, the business specializes in signature chicken empanadas…a unique offering in the local market designed to provide authentic, satisfying meals to shift workers and community gatherings.

THE PROFITABILITY CRISIS: LOSING MONEY ON EVERY BITE

Karma’s Treats came to TymFlo through ProsperUs after applying for a technical service grant, recognizing that Andrea needed help building a sustainable and profitable business. Andrea had a product that everyone loved, but a business model that was financially unsustainable. Despite strong customer loyalty at her workplace, the business was losing money on every transaction.

Strategic Foundation & Pricing Reset

TymFlo implemented a 12-week transformation plan centered on perfecting one signature product before expanding. We transitioned Karma’s Treats from "serving everyone" to targeting two high-value segments: Workplace Warriors and Community Connectors.

OUR APPROACH

The ''Big Mac'' Strategy : Focusing chicken empanadas as the primary menu. This strategy mirrors McDonald's approach of mastering one signature item before expanding. It helps streamline production, optimize pricing and make the business more recognizable

Pricing Optimization : Transitioning from a $6 loss-leader to a $9 premium-value price point.

Cost Engineering : Accurately measuring ingredients to reduce per-unit costs and eliminate waste.

How We Did It

COMPREHENSIVE BUSINESS IMPLEMENTATION & GROWTH STRATEGY

Tiered Customer Segmentation

We moved away from broad demographics to specific personas like "Workplace Whitney" (shift workers needing convenience) and "Community Carol" (event organizers needing reliable catering). This allowed for 60% more effective marketing messaging.

Customer Journey Mapping

TymFlo mapped the transition from Awareness to Re-purchase. We identified that "Workplace Warriors" respond to social media during commute hours, while "Community Connectors" require advance planning and faith-based alignment.

Financial Sustainability Plan

By increasing price points and optimizing production (moving from 13 to 15+ empanadas per batch), we turned a -$32 loss into a potential $77 profit per batch.
